Phone numbers
Getting a phone number
Search for and buy a phone number, assign it to an agent, and release it when you no longer need it.
An agent can't take real calls until it has a phone number. On the Phone numbers tab you can buy a new number, assign it to an agent, and release it later. (Prefer to keep your existing line? See Forwarding your own number.)
Before you can buy: verify your phone
The first time you buy a number, you'll verify a phone you own. This is a one-time anti-fraud step — see Phone verification. Once verified, you can buy numbers in any supported country.
Buy a number
- Open Phone numbers and click to search.
- Choose a country and search. We show numbers that are actually available to buy there.
- Pick a number and confirm to buy it. It's added to your account.
Country coverage: numbers are available in a wide range of countries. If a country has no results, it isn't currently available — try a nearby country, or forward your existing line instead. Many businesses simply use a local US or UK number.
Assign a number to an agent
A number only does something once it's attached to an agent:
- On the Phone numbers tab, find your number.
- Assign (attach) it to the agent that should answer it.
- Call the number to confirm your agent picks up — see Testing your agent.
You can reassign a number to a different agent at any time.
Release a number
If you no longer need a number, release it from the Phone numbers tab. Once released it stops billing and is no longer yours, so only do this when you're sure.
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep my current business number? Yes — instead of buying, you can forward your existing line to your agent. See Forwarding your own number.
Why isn't my country listed? Number availability varies by country and carrier. If yours isn't available, a number in a supported country plus call forwarding usually works well.
Can one agent have several numbers? Yes — you can point multiple numbers at the same agent.
